Ecopoetry

Ecopoetry is nature poetry concerned with environmental issues. An excellent anthology is published by Bloodaxe Books, titled, Earth Shattering, edited by Neil Astley. http://www.bloodaxebooks.com
Here is a poem of mine on the theme of ‘Earth Mother.’

Tread Lightly

Tread lightly for the Earth is our dwelling place.
Tread lightly for its waters quench our thirst.
Tread lightly for its plants feed us.
Tread lightly for its sun is the giver of life.
Tread lightly for the air is the breath of life.
Tread lightly for its rivers fill the seas.
Tread lightly for the rainforest is our billion year old pharmacy.

Tread lightly for the ozone layer is our shield.
Tread lightly for the ocean is a playground for wondrous beings.
Tread lightly for the fields are ablaze with joy.
Tread lightly for the soil is a history archive.
Tread lightly for the coral reefs are teeming cities.
Tread lightly for the savannah was our birthplace.

Tread lightly for the forests are burning.
Tread lightly for the ice caps are melting.
Tread lightly for extinction is a one way highway.

Tread lightly for those trees witnessed the Sermon on the Mount.
Tread lightly for that Bodhi Tree nurtured the Buddha’s Enlightenment.
Tread lightly for those were Muhammad’s mountains.

Tread lightly for we are the Destroyers and the Midwives.
Tread lightly for we are the Stewards.
Tread lightly for we are the Spirit.
Tread lightly for the Earth is our Mother.
Tread lightly for our Mother is speaking.
